About Me

Family and friends, who have been a part of my life for a long time, think that I was always destined to be a teacher. They say that they saw my vocation in the way I relate to children and childhood and learning and education. Of-course like all fools and rebels I took my time arriving at the same conclusion.

My first advances towards choosing to teach as a career, began in 1990. I was given the opportunity to become a Literacy Officer as a part of my studies. My job was to go to various schools around where we lived and help children with literacy problems to learn to read. It was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding assignments I had ever had. For the first time I realized what a difference I could make to a child's life in such a short amount of time.

One thing lead to another and found myself in school learning to teach. With a lot of help and encouragement from family friends and my teachers, four years later I could officially calling myself a teacher and pursue teaching as my profession.

On the completion of my studies, I was lucky to be offered a place at St Elizabeths'... and there, I have started to learn again. While I felt that I learned how to be a teacher, the real world of classrooms and children is a constant training ground on its own. The world is truly a different place seen through the eyes of each child - and therein lies the challenge to be a really effective teacher and to grow as a person.

I love being a teacher, it is my passion!
